The Missing Recipe

                                            4C Szeto Cheuk Yau Kyle

Yesterday, at around seven o’clock in the morning, a crime happened at Astin’s Donut Bakery. When
the Secret Detection Station knew about it, they quickly sent two detectives to solve the case. These
two detectives always worked together and no matter what the problem was, they would solve it. These
detectives are called Detective Yat and Detective Bobby.
When Yat and Bobby arrived at the donut shop, they did not see anyone in the bakery lining up
for donuts. The bakery was completely empty. Just then, they heard a person crying somewhere in the
bakery. They followed the sound and went into the kitchen. Yat and Bobby saw the famous baker Astin
crying. Yat asked Astin what happened. Astin said that someone had stolen his corgi cookie recipe. That
recipe had been passed on from generations to generations starting from the medieval period all the way
until now! Bobby was sorry for Astin and decided to ask what had happened before Astin found out he lost
it. Then he wrote everything Astin said in his notebook. First, at six o’clock, Mrs. Waterson came into the
bakery and bought six pieces of star-shaped muffins. After she ate them, she had to use the toilet. After
that, Sheriff Brown came into the bakery and bought a green tea flavoured cake. Lastly, Mr. Jones came
in and bought a bag of sweet potato creamed puffs. Since it was Mr. Jones’s birthday, Astin randomly took
a piece near him and wrote ‘Happy Birthday’ on the paper and gave it to Mr. Jones. All these people could
       have stolen the recipe.
They decided to look for clues. Yat, Bobby and Astin went to a place where a criminal could hide his
or her evidence. They went into the alley right next to the bakery. There, they found some cookie crumbs
on the floor. They followed the cookie crumbs which ended in front of Jack’s house. Since Jack was a
waiter at Astin’s Donut Bakery, he could tell us more clues. They knocked the door and Jack came out.
They asked Jack if he saw anything suspicious. Jack said he saw a shadow that looked like a woman
running fast and holding something that morning at seven ten. Bobby asked the direction of where the
shadow was running to. Jack said he saw the shadow going into the post station. When Yat, Bobby and
Astin went to the mail store, they had known that it was Mrs. Waterson. Astin said that it had to be Mrs.
Waterson because the toilet was in the kitchen, she could have stolen the recipe when he wasn’t looking.
Mrs. Waterson was in the post station. She was sitting on a chair and doing her work on a wooden table.
The table had a golden sign that said “manager” on it. Yat told Mrs. Waterson to surrender and hand in the
recipe but Mrs. Waterson was confused. She said she did not steal the recipe. Yat, Bobby and Astin did
not know what to do. They walked out of the building and walked to the park. They did not find anything.
They were sad. Just then, they smelled a strong scent of cookies coming from a street near the park. They
quickly ran there as soon as they smelled the fresh cookies. The smell led them to a kite store. Inside the
kite store, they saw a man sitting in the end of the shop eating cookies. Yat began to interview the man.
The man said that the Sheriff baked some cookies and gave them to him just now. Why would the Sheriff
give the man cookies? They decided to go to the Sheriff’s house. However, Yat and Bobby did not know
where the Sheriff lived. Luckily, Astin was Sheriff’s neighbor and knew where he lived. When they arrived
