Student Hobbies
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, our activities became limited. While some found it difficult to
kill time, others tried to make good use of their time and have even developed a new hobby or picked
up a forgotten hobby again. Let’s read some examples from our students.
Some students enjoyed sports. Jackie Lau (2B) tried to do
some sports which she had never or rarely done before,
such as hiking or biking. Sweating made her feel good and
she enjoyed doing sport with her
friends. Stephanie Lai (4D) has
learnt a less common sport. Last
year, she already wanted to learn
skateboarding, but time was so
limited that she managed to practise only once or twice. Thanks to the class
suspension, she had more free time. Although during the practice, she had
to wear a mask most of the time, she still enjoyed it. She has learned a few
tricks such as an “ollie over a line” or a “frontside 180 ollie”. She is extremely
delighted that she can perform a trick successfully. As a reward to encourage
herself, she has bought a new skateboard - her very first skateboard!
Comparing herself to a scientist who likes to immerse himself in a
laboratory, Crystal Liang (3A) enjoyed spending time in her own little
world - the kitchen! Many other students have also been paving the way to
become a junior MasterChef. Eugenia Lee (2B) was so eager to try a newly
bought machine - an air fryer. Judy Huang (3A) and
Canny Lau (4D) both seem to have a sweet tooth as
they are fond of making desserts. Yan Cheung (3A)
encountered some difficulties and made some bread that came out rock-hard
and unpalatable. Still, she did not give up and made a few more attempts,
hoping to master the skills at last. Their parents, especially mothers, are
probably the most delighted as they can
devote less time to cooking and spend more
time on other household chores.
Some students committed time to music. Ian Chow (5A) is an
example and has even produced a song all by himself. He believes
that there is a layer of beauty in what you produce, no matter what
you are writing about because it is a true reflection of your state of
mind or your deepest thoughts. He does not consider himself good at expressing his feelings directly,
which makes him more emotionally invested in writing. He uses whatever methods he can to share his
message with people. Even if he may not be fully understood, he still finds it a relief to get something
off his chest. He feels a sense of accomplishment that he is able to do something that he doesn’t
feel comfortable about, in a comforting way. His debut is called Red Light. If you want to hear more
about the song, check out his Instagram (ian_chow_) for more details!
