I’ve recently participated in the Chinese Cultural Elite competition. Along the
way, we had lots of experience.

On the day of my birthday, we started our first training, and it was definitely
harder than I thought. There were a lot of unfamiliar words and knowledge,
which overwhelmed me. I underestimated this competition.

But as we had more and more training, I started getting used to it. There were
still some unclear spots, but I understood most of it. We started to be able to
recite entire sentences, which made us as proud as a peacock.
I was absolutely flattered as my teacher, Ms. Yu, told me that I would be in
charge of the second round of the competition. She also told me that I would
be responsible for the Three Character Classic, so I started doing revision
for it. Day after day, I got better and better at reciting the sentences, and I
familiarised myself with them! And it definitely paid off!
Although we didn’t get that far in the competition, it was still a great experience.
It is said that “Practise makes perfect”. I offer humble thanks to Ms. Yu, Ms.
Hon, Ms. Jiao and Ms. Lam for giving me this opportunity. Thank you!

Chinese culture has been passed on for about 5000 years. I’m honoured to
join the “Chinese Cultural Elites — Hong Kong Primary School Chinese Culture
Competition” with other schoolmates to learn more about it.

Our teachers spent extra time to have after-school lessons with us to prepare for
the competition. Although we had lots of problems in understanding the classical
Chinese language at the beginning, we still tried our best to manage it.
After training for about a month, I was picked as one of the team members
to join the competition at Jao Tsung-I Academy. It was my first time to
enter such a big competition and our opponents were talented, but with
cooperation and the knowledge that we learnt, we finally managed to
beat them with more than 200 marks in difference.

Thanks to all the teachers’ hard work, I learnt a lot about Chinese
culture and also learnt to cooperate with others through this
                   competition.
