Students' Exemplary Works
My Life on the Reserve
3C Wong Hiu Ching
After dancing and singing, I was very tired but I wanted
to have more activities. I wanted to pick crops in Kokum’s
farm and go to the forest beside the lake. I asked Kokum if
I could go. Luckily, she allowed me to go there.
I saw a farmer picking the crops. “They are exhausted.
They put a lot of effort into their work,” I thought. Kokum
led me to a corn field and told me to work there. The corn
was stuck in the soil. I pulled again and again. When I
almost finished, I saw the farmers. They grabbed the corn,
washed them carefully in the well and loaded them into
bags. They put the bags into a truck and drove them to the
city. After working for a while, I sat on Kokum’s big chair and took a rest. I felt
very tired and had to wipe the sweat from my face. But it was worth doing this.
Homegrown crops were the best. I loved doing it. After I took a rest, Kokum told
me that it was time for another activity.
We arrived at the forest. I was scared at first. I wore a green T-shirt with
brown trousers so it wouldn’t be easy for beasts to find me. Plus, I got my mom
and Kokum. They always stood up for me. We walked into the forest. The forest
was an amazing sight. There were many tiny insects, trees and plants that I
didn’t even know. We saw pumas, lions, tigers, and lizards that ran around us.
Besides, I saw a kingfisher and a hummingbird.
We explored the forest until six o’clock in the evening. I enjoyed my trip
very much. I couldn’t wait for another trip to visit Kokum.
