Blessing In Disguise

“Mom. Thank you for giving me the precious photo album which brings sweet and wonderful memories to
me as well as the stack of red packets,” I said gratefully.
Yesterday was school holiday, my mother promised to take me to Ocean Park. Unfortunately, it was raining
heavily. My mother cancelled the plan. To make the matter worse, she suggested to tidy up the storeroom
altogether.

In the storeroom, there were many big cardboard boxes. My mother and I moved out the boxes one by
one to the sitting room. Suddenly, I saw one of the boxes which was marked “PHOTO ALBUMS”, so I curiously
took out the photo albums.

I turned over the first page of the photo album. I saw my mother lying in the hospital bed with a newborn
baby in her arms and my father sitting next to my mother. Both of them were having bright smiles on their
faces. It was a very warm and touching photo. “The baby is you!” my mother said. “Is me? So lovely! I haven’t
seen my newborn photo before,” I said in surprise.

I was fascinated by the photo album: my mother nursed me and helped me to walk; my father taught me
how to swim and ride a bicycle. The photos in front of me are like scenes after scenes being replayed in my
mind. It was just like I was watching a documentary of my own growth.
After tidying the storeroom, I found there was a money box at the corner of the floor. I took it out to my
mother. My mother opened it and screamed loudly. “Oh! All these red packets are your newborn gifts. I almost
forgot about them. I think it’s the time to give them back to you,” my mother said.

Yesterday, I deeply felt the meaning of a blessing in disguise.
