Imagine that inanimate things have come
to life. Write about what they do and say.

Last Thursday, when I woke up in the morning, something extraordinary happened. For the first time, I
woke up without my blanket on the floor. Then I heard a funny weird voice, “Stop kicking me onto the floor!”
I was scared because that voice was so unfamiliar. After that I tried going back to sleep. Then, another
voice interfered. The voice sounded like ‘a grandpa’s voice’ and it said, “Wake up! It’s time for school.” I was
shocked, yet grateful that I didn’t sleep in. It had to be my clock and my blanket talking, I thought.
I still can’t believe I did that, but I was telling them not to make any more noise because I was afraid they
would wake my mum and dad who have overtime work literally every day.
“Please just be…”
“Hey! Thank me! Without me you would have caught a cold long ago!”
I quickly thanked the blanket and dashed out of my bedroom, trying to calm myself down. I thought it was
just an illusion, but it wasn’t. Even I was sure I was totally awake, those “non-living objects” were still talking.
“Don’t forget your homework bag!”
After I got out of the home, I couldn’t hear any more words from them. It gave me some time to think
about what really happened. Were they real? Could I be friends with them? Or was the whole thing just an
illusion? The time passed quickly as I was absorbed in my thoughts and soon I was at the school gate. Nothing
happened until I entered the classroom.
“Stop moving the chair back and forth!”
Of course it was the voice from the chair. Time after time, my mum and dad had told me not to do that
but they failed, but now the chair just used one sentence and stopped me from doing that. I was certainly a bit
scared.
Later in the English lesson, the English teacher tried to play a video but the classroom speakers broke.
I’m the IT helper of the class so it was my job to take care of it. But I was not so sure what I had to do. Luckily,
the speakers taught me how to fix that. After the recess it was Chinese Composition, one of my least favourite
lessons because it makes my hand so tired. I could not thank it more as it was the pen doing the writing for me
today. I just needed to think about what to write and pretend I was the one writing.
Then it was time for home. Usually, my back would hurt a lot because of the bag being very heavy. But
this time, the bag pulled itself up, so my back was fine after I got home. As soon as I arrived home, no object
spoke again. I was feeling a bit disappointed. At night, after I said goodnight to my stuffed toys, I went to sleep,
hoping everything was true and it would happen again the next day. However, that didn’t happen. My blanket
didn’t climb back up by itself again. I guess at least I learned how to fix the speakers…
