Outstanding Students Award
The Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award is one of the most recognized and prestigious awards for secondary
school students in Hong Kong. This year, five students from KTGSS were selected. Let’s find out how they feel
about receiving the awards.
Kowloon Region Outstanding Students Award
4A Li Kam Yau
Last year, I was very lucky that I was offered a chance to participate in the Kwun Tong Outstanding Students’ Election.
I took part in two rounds of interviews, which were very intimidating at first but also very inspiring. Not only did it make
me reflect on the community affairs in Kwun Tong, but it also encouraged me to strengthen my interpersonal skills
by meeting new people from my community and realizing how much we have in common, especially relating to
developing our local community.
After the election in Kwun Tong district, I was extremely honored to proceed to
the Kowloon Region Outstanding Students’ Election. It was very challenging as
it gathered talented students from all five regions in Kowloon. I was involved in
collaborative interaction with my peers and we all brought our unique skill sets to
the group. Both elections allowed me to interact with the other excellent local
students and broadened my horizons beyond the school gate.
I would like to encourage KTGSS students to dedicate your time to your
community and to work hard for your personal goals – remember we all have
special talent! I believe that criticism and obstacles are inevitable, so with that in mind, you can become fearless. The
slogan of the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Awards is ‘Giving is Outstanding’ and it always motivates me to be
open hearted and do my best to make a change in my world and the world. I encourage all of you to stand tall to
pursue your dreams! With determined effort, you can make your dreams come true – just like what I did.
Kowloon Region Distinguished Students Award 6A Mok Ka Yan
What an honour to be one of the Kwun Tong Outstanding Students and Kowloon District
Commendable Students! This is a shining beacon of my progress and recognises my relentless
effort to serve my community. I would like to thank my parents for their constant support and
encouragement, as well as the Principal and my teachers for their guidance and assistance in
developing my capabilities.
Looking back over the election period, I consider it a meaningful growth experience. From
the moment of application to attending multifarious interviews, not only did I begin to
understand more about myself, but I was also inspired to think about the purpose of my life
and the contribution I could make to our society. Moreover, I was enlightened to reinterpret
the meaning of ‘Outstanding’. In my opinion, outstanding students should be self-motivated
– they may not be the children of good fortune, but they are eager to be dedicated leaders.
They accept that they are not perfect, but are on a journey where they will learn from every experience and mistake.
They will use every opportunity as a springboard to do their best in every endeavor. In a nutshell, having been elected
an outstanding student, I have embarked on the journey of a lifelong learner. As the old saying goes, ‘Knowledge is
Boundless.’ I pledge to keep honing my skills and qualities and to surmount obstacles that previously discouraged me
from achieving my goals. In fact, you can demonstrate your extraordinary talent right where you are. Every one of you
could be an outstanding student!
