Sitting in the first row in the school hall six years ago, I was no more than an immature boy wondering over the uncertainties and
craving for opportunities to shine in my secondary school life.
Among the activities provided, I found myself fond of Chinese debating, due to perhaps my “talkative” personality, as well as my
enthusiasm in team work and achievement. The sense of fulfillment brought by every victory in debate competitions; every smile
on the face of audience; or every laughter during the late-night rehearsals, has nurtured me to aim higher and achieve more. As
my confidence grew with my experience, I wrote up my own motto, ‘nothing is impossible to a willing heart and hard work’.
When proceeding to F.5, I undoubtedly took up more responsibilities, namely running for the Presidency of Student Union and
serving as the Captain of Chinese Debate Team. Once I took up these leading roles, instantly I felt the weight on my shoulder
tripled. I learnt to be the one who led and motivated the team, yet humbly listened to opinions or even criticisms from different
parties in order to lay out a plan that best fitted the interests and needs of various stakeholders. Being a leader, after all, requires
more than just courage, but also being visionary and decisive.
In face of the tests and hurdles in my teenage life, I am very fortunate not to be alone: I am grateful for the insightful advices and
heartwarming reminders from Principal and teachers; the ever-available companionship and unfailing support from my team and
buddies in times of despair and frustration; and even the generous helping hand from the alumni in the
          name of Wa Yingers.
Now that I am embarking on graduation, going to receive the graduation certificates
in the school hall, I am grateful to have realized the motto ‘nothing is impossible to a
willing and supportive team’. I am proud to be in the team, and be a Wa Yinger. Six
years of secondary school life left me no regrets but gratitude to my school and my
fellow schoolmates. May this harmonious place be filled with ample opportunities,
nurturing us to shine with our teams and be the light in the world!

It is not uncommon for a student, who used to be an introvert and lacked people
skills, to undergo transformation in personality after taking up a myriad of different
extra-curricular responsibilities, which first appeared to be challenging if not
impossible. The following is my own version of ‘a girl encountering the world’: joining
the Internal Committee of Student Union in Form 2, which stretched my “limit” in
communication and organisation through interaction with others. What prompted my
marked changes were the many of my fond memories with my team, such as packing candies
for ‘Sweetie Express’ till 9pm in the campus and the making of DIY watermelon balls for the
graduation cup. Through these episodes, not only have I gained a stronger bond with my teammates, I
have also discovered my interest in organising activities and capability in shouldering more responsibility, emboldening me to
take up the election campaign for the post of Internal Vice President of Student Union in Form 4.
The debut of ‘girl encountering the world’ has evolved since then: in Student Union Committee, my leadership skills being
developed; in House Committee, I learned what team spirit is; in School Debating Team, my presentation skills and critical
thinking being brushed up; in Table Tennis School Team, I was shown the spirit of true sportsmanship – all these experiences have
played an integral part of my secondary school life in Wa Ying. In the process, teachers and schoolmates played an important role
as my mentors, teammates and cheerleaders, which were indispensable in my journey of growth.

I am grateful that Wa Ying has offered me opportunities to serve different roles and make new attempts. I would like to extend my
genuine gratitude to all teacher mentors, who inspired me to learn and serve. Hence, in the last year of my secondary education,
I take up the responsibility of the Chairlady of Form 6 Committee so as to build up a closer bond between our fellow form-mates
and our alma mater, Wa Ying College.
