Academic results have become the prime objectives of most students nowadays; and sadly, fellow students might easily become
          competitors rather than learning buddies.
I have once lost faith in studying when I first came to Wa Ying. Surrounded by top students from their respective primary schools,
I looked at them in awe. All I could hear were their difficult vocabularies, and all I could see were the novels in their hands thicker
than a dictionary. Could I survive here? I doubted. Today, I can answer in more certainty. And the answer is no more than the
cliché: study is a highly personal yet gregarious journey leading to where your future and destiny lies. Learn to enjoy the process
of studying with our schoolmates, allow interactions to take place, and then studying will never be a burden but the source of joy.
If we merely deem that studying is unidirectional, we’ll never enjoy it as if we are paddling a boat in an ocean in circles. What
makes me enjoy studying is that I can interact and collaborate with one another. Interaction makes studying fascinating, revealing
where your true path in the pursuit of knowledge lies. And this can be truly reflected in my study of English. When learning a new
topic, like ‘selfie’, we discuss or even debate from what we have learnt. This makes the process of learning English interactive,
as one can challenge if the opinions are well-founded, and they all count as the invaluable experience gained. What is more, we
gain learning buddies and together we can achieve more. I have participated in the public speaking team in the English Speech
Festival with my buddies and what we gained from each other is worth more than the prizes. We experience the joy of team work
while learning from one another. When supported by teachers and learning buddies who guide
and cheer for you, you won’t easily lose faith in learning. In doing so we build a supportive
learning circle, versus competition, and performing well in our studies is made easy.
That’s what our Wa Ying teachers wish to see in us. They hope to see us study
in order to become knowledgeable people who know the importance of
collaboration, not an examination machine which tries to out-perform the
others. What can differentiate us from robots is whether we can learn, think
and innovate as individuals in the process of studying. I am thankful that I
have gained many learning buddies in Wa Ying, making my secondary school
          life joyful.

It has already been 2 years since I was elected as Head Prefect. Time flies but memories
don’t fade, I can still remember vividly my campaign presentation in the Needlework
Room that afternoon, with hands sweating and legs trembling. If I were to go back in time,
neither my F1 class teacher nor the 13-year-old me would in their wildest imagination
believe that I would take up such role 5 years later.
The first impressions by my teachers and classmates back then were that I was quiet and passive.
That is no longer the case. I decided to run for election as Head Prefect because of the determination
to change, and therefore stepping out of the comfort zone. In fact, many of my duties were to be learnt as along the way. With the
Principals' meetings with other school leaders and the Joint School Prefect Training I promised during the election, I have gained
many precious and unforgettable opportunities to learn and express my views, and to put into practice how to create and execute
          a new program from scratch.

Being a head prefect is by no means easy. The ups and downs have shaped me into a more mature person with a more
sophisticated mindset, knowing when to fight and when to compromise. The role has taught me that its duties can never be done
without a team, for which I owe my gratitude to all the teachers and my fellow prefects. I would like to thank all prefects for their
dedication. Special thanks must be given to our teacher advisors, Mr. Lee and Mr. Kwan, who have given me tremendous support
          and valuable advice.

I would like to wrap up the sharing with my favorite quote from Walt Disney: We keep moving forward, opening new doors,
and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. Admittedly, there is still room for
improvement for our Prefects' Board- Rome is not built in one day. I believe that Prefects’ Board is a home for potential leaders
and all of you will do the job well with your innovation and vision.
