Mathematics is an essential subject in schools as it
is an intellectual endeavour and a mode of thinking
and it can develop students’ logical mind and ability
of judgement. To fulfil these educational goals, our
teachers in the Mathematics Department launched
a series of programmes and activities such as the
Bi-weekly Logic Questions, Fun Day, Mathematics
Olympiad Courses and Tsuen Wan District City Hunt
(Mathematics) last year.

To open students＇ eyes in Mathematics, they were
encouraged to join different competitions including
The Hong Kong Youth Mathematical High Achievers
Selection Contest (香港青少年數學精英選拔賽), Pui
Ching Invitational Mathematics Competition (培正數
學邀請賽), Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (香港

數學競賽) and The Hong Kong Mathematics Creative
Problem-Solving Competition for Secondary Schools
(香港中學數學創意解難比賽). Our students showed
great enthusiasm in solving Math problems and
joining group discussion. Some said they gained
confidence by participating in the competitions,
while others felt that the competitions enabled them
to develop communication and leadership skills.
As these skills are not only an essential element for
lifelong learning, but also a key to success in life, our
department will keep encouraging students to join
different competitions to gain more life experience.
Among these, a team formed by S.1 and S.2 students
won the Bronze Prize in The Hong Kong Mathematics
Creative Problem-Solving Competition for Secondary
Schools.
