I have joined the school Chinese Drum Team since Primary
Two. It is my honour to be the team captain this year. Being part
of the team, I participated in many different performances and
competitions in the past few years. I am so glad that our team
got very outstanding achievements in most of the competitions,
such as the Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition and the
Hong Kong Joint School Music Competition.
School Teams
Chinese drumming is a group activity, usually involving more than ten
percussionists in the group, which means it needs high collaborating
action. I enjoy practising with my teammates. We have a very strong
team spirit. I have learnt a lot when working with other team members to
reach a common goal. When the goal is achieved, I feel really satisfied.
One of the most memorable experiences with the team was the training
tour to Shanxi, China last year. The training during the Shanxi excursion
was tough and harsh, but it improved our basic drumming skills a lot. We
learnt a new song “Qin Emperor Inspects Soldiers” within just a few days
there. It was such a valuable experience to me.
This year because of the outbreak of COVID-19, classes were suspended
for more than four months. All the training and competitions for the
Chinese drum were cancelled as well. Since this is my last year in the
104
team, I feel a bit disappointed. But I do believe that my enthusiasm for
drumming will continue even when I go to the secondary school. And I
do hope our younger ones in the team can continue to work hard and will
get more awards for our school. At last, I want to take this opportunity to
thank Mr. Man and Miss Zhang for teaching me the Chinese drum.
