Letter to the Editor

                                                           6B (8) Chu Man Kit
       Dear Editor,

Should Schools Allow the Public to Use Their Sports Facilities After School
       Hours?

I am writing in response to whether schools should allow the public to use
their sports facilities after school hours. I am the principal of ABC Secondary
School. I do not think opening our school to the public is a good method to
solve the problem of lacking sports facilities in the community. Here are my

       views below.

Firstly, the school’s security will be compromised due to limited number of
security guards in the school. I believe that most people in Hong Kong just

want to keep fit in our school. However, we also need to prevent some bad
people from entering our school and harming our students. As a principal
of a secondary school, we need to provide a safe study environment to our
students. So the open school policy is not ideal.

Secondly, schools need to pay more to maintain the quality of the sports area.
To run an open school policy, we need to pay extra fees to hire more security
guards, install more CCTVs and maintain the sports facilities. All of these cost

the school extra for maintaining the quality of the environment for the public
to use. As a school, we should prioritize the improvement of education and
equipment like projectors for learning. The open school policy will increase the
expenditure in aspects not related to education. So, schools should not be

       opened to the public.
