Civic and National Education

The Civic Education Committee aims to cultivate students’ civic sense in personal, family,
               societal, national and global domains.

               Our goals are:
 to arouse students’ awareness of their rights and obligations of a citizen as well as concern
                  for the community, our nation and the world;
 to help students acquire a basic understanding of democracy, liberty, equality, human rights
and law and to apply such concepts in daily life; and
 to keep students abreast of current affairs, develop their critical thinking and open-
mindedness towards people, culture, values and ways of life, thus making informed
                  judgments and sensible decisions.

Thanks to our Committee, Civic Education Ambassadors (CEAs), Community Service Team,
Community Youth Club as well as the unceasing support of our school, we have been able
to achieve the above goals and objectives through the organization of various activities for
our students and reaped rich harvests in territory-wide competitions including Basic Law
competitions. We have been crowned Champion of the Highest Number of Participants
Award, Top Ten Participation Rate Award and the Highest Number of Certificates of Merit

YEARS OF EXCELLENCE Award in the Community Chest Flag Day as well as receiving the Most Active School Award
of Hok Yau Club Top Ten News Election for years.

Apart from programmes organized by the Committee, we closely collaborate with subject
40 panels, functional groups, the Students’ Union and the Parent-Teacher Association to introduce

Civic Education via joint-party programmes, cross-subject curricula and Life Education
lessons. We also take the initiative to seek assistance from government bodies and outside
community organizations such as the Equal Opportunities Commission, Quality Education
               Fund and UNICEF Hong Kong.

Not only do we show concern for Hong Kong society, but we have also put strenuous effort in
strengthening students’ national identification as well as enriching their knowledge of Chinese
history and culture through the curricula of Key Learning Areas including Chinese-related
subjects, History, Visual Arts and Music. Diverse activities have been organized, including
Flag Raising Ceremony, Inter-class National Education Competition, Mid-autumn Festival
Lantern Riddles, Chinese Calligraphy Class, Chinese Opera Performance, Hunger Banquet,
etc. Every year, our F.1 and F.4 students have the opportunity to join study tours to Mainland
China and Taiwan. Mutual interflows have been conducted with delegates, professionals and
our sister schools in Mainland China.

We believe that our students, as caring and responsible citizens, would be great assets to the
community and the country. In line with the ongoing renewal of school curriculum initiated
by the Education Bureau, our scope of curriculum development would lie on Basic Law
Education, recognition of national identity as well as global citizenship.
