Mathematics

Department

An objective of the Mathematics Department is to awaken student’s learning interests
in Math. We believe that learning outside of the classroom achieves this goal and
helps them explore Mathematics from different perspectives. We organised various
activities throughout the year. Here are some highlights:

1. Students had to use different ‘tools’ to
draw a perfect circle.
2. The 14 of March is a special day for 1
th
Mathematics because it is an opportunity
for students to explore the concept of ‘π’
(Pi).
3. Students found the value of π by applying
the equation learnt in lessons to
mathematical problems.
4. We used Origami to ignite student’s
interest in polygons. In the workshop,
held by the Mathematics Society, 2
students analysed their structures.
5. To help explore their future careers,
Career guidance programmes were 3
tailor-made for Mathematics Society
members.
6. Reading is essential for students to
develop their knowledge of Maths.
7. The Mathematical Olympiad is held
annually. Among other skills, it
strengthens important mathematical
concepts and develops creativity and
critical thinking.
