We had visited a few orphanages. Although the children there lack
entertainment and, sadly, love from parents, they look much happier than
all of us. It seems that they do not need a lot of toys, for they are creative
to design what they play with. And they have friends around them to
support each other.
I should be thankful and feel blessed. I live in a much better environment
than most Cambodians. Material and affluence may not make you happy.
I have learnt how to serve the underprivileged and organize games for
children. Their smile is the best reward for me. I would never forget their
faces and each precious moment.
It’s terrific! Don’t miss a chance to join service trip, because I won’t.
The visit at the “House of Rainbow Bridge” has been one of the most
meaningful for me.
It is placed in a neighbourhood that used to be a landfill. Its history has
in some way influenced its present, as the area is still very poor and
lacks basic hygiene, streets were bumpy and unclean. Nevertheless this
had nothing to do with the pureness of the kids' smiles when we arrived
carrying colorful balloons at the gate of the orphanage.
We had been warmly welcomed by the kids and the staff. One of our
groups had prepared a great series of games to play with the kids. My
favourite one was tying a balloon on one foot of each player and then
everyone had to run around the courtyard, trying to pop others' balloons
by stepping on them.
We had a very good time there, full of fun and laughter. The beautiful
colours of the games made the environment incredibly joyful. I truly hope
that we were able to bring some happiness to the life of these kids who
are not as fortunate as they deserve to be.
