Adopting a Puppy

Subject: Adopting a puppy
Dear Mum,
I attended Puppy Adoption Day last Sunday and I truly understand that I can give a puppy
a content and healthy life by adopting one. So, I am writing to tell you that I wish to adopt a
puppy.
First of all, adopting a puppy will give it a happier life after being abandoned or abused. By
adopting a puppy, we are enabling it to explore the world instead of being locked inside a cage.
In fact, around 670 thousand dogs are euthanised every year as the demand for pet shelters is
increasing rapidly, with the amount of adopters decreasing continuously. Even though saving
one dog out of thousands may seem negligible, this kind act can influence others and free up
space in pet shelters.
Second, although adopting a puppy may lead to extra responsibility, adoption centres
provide numerous kinds of services and training to adopters. Moreover, dogs at adoption centres
are trained, which means it will be more obedient and behaved. I understand that dogs need
45 to 60 minutes of exercise daily, and that it may make a mess. So, I will walk it regularly and
clean up the mess it makes.
You may think that I do not have the related knowledge to take care of it, and that there is
not enough space at home. However, adoption centres provide training to us, and I will walk it
three times a day to solve the problem of not having enough space at home.
Based on the above reasons, I sincerely hope that you will allow me to adopt a puppy to save
it from being euthanised.
Yours sincerely,
Kelvin Cheang
