The Best Performance I Have Ever Seen

                                                  3A Sammi Mok Tze Lam

The musical ‘Bluebird of Happiness’ is the best performance I have ever
seen. It was the fi rst time I had ever seen a show in Hong Kong. The story starts
on Christmas Eve and is about a brother and a sister called Mytyl and Tytyl. They
are poor and are unhappy with their Christmas presents. In search of a better life,
the two children go on a magical journey.
They are searching for the mythical creature
known as the bluebird of happiness together
with their cat, dog and ‘lights’. Lights is a
candle in human form. The two kids visit
various places. A place called ‘The land of
memory’ is where the children meet their
long dead grandparents. They also go to
‘The palace of the night’, ‘The forest’, ‘The
land of luxury’, ‘The land of future’ and ‘The
                                         graveyard’.
This musical is an annual performance by the Hong Kong Academy of
                                                    st
Performing Arts. I watched this musical on the 21 December 2014. I went to
watch this musical because my drama teacher, Ray Kwok and my friend, Doris
Yu were performing in the musical. They invited me and gave me two free tickets
to enjoy the show. So I went to watch it with my mum. As an arts lover, I enjoyed
this musical very much and I think it was amazing because of the fantastic stage
effects and beautiful set designs. Each time a new scene was unveiled, there were
audible wows from the audience. The play had strong characters which were easily
understood. There were evil characters like Night and Tylette. They looked scary
and terrible. I especially liked the performance of Michael Rogers, who played the
siblings faithful and cute but cowardly dog Tylo. He had animated facial expressions
which helped him to create the memorable character. It brought a lot of humor and
          warmth to the show.
I could totally imagine that I was
travelling together with Mytyl and Tytyl. I also
          imagined myself wandering through these
Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School (Shatin)
fantasy lands. The music was awesome
too. The melodies were very soft but nice. It
appealed to my heart and my ears. I hope I
can invite more people to watch this musical
if it is shown again because it is aw esome.
