The Best Performance I Have Ever Seen
3A Harvey Leung Chun For
It was a Chinese Orchestra performance performed by the Hong Kong Chinese
Orchestra. The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is one of the best orchestra’s you
can fi nd in Hong Kong. The performance was held in the Shatin Town Hall. It took
place around fi ve weeks ago.
I went to enjoy the performance with a
few old friends from the Chinese Orchestra I
was a part of. We were really excited about the
performance because in our orchestra we had
always heard about how amazing the Hong
Kong Chinese Orchestra is. We went to the
town hall by bus. When we arrived, the hall
was already crowded with audience members.
They were all waiting to get into the concert
hall. After a few minutes, we all went into the concert hall to take our seats. The
concert hall was really dark compared to the brightness of the stage. The orchestra
performers were making sure their instruments were all working fi ne. There was one
Chinese instrument within their orchestra that I didn’t recognize. I asked one of my
experienced friends about it. He said it is like a Dihu. We didn’t have a Dihu in our
old orchestra. A Dihu looks like a Chinese version of a Cello. They are both really
large.
After a few chats with my friends, we all stopped talking as the orchestra was
finished preparing and was ready to start performing. When they started playing
their songs, the melodies produced by the instruments stunned the whole audience
because they sounded epic and amazing!
The Erhu within the orchestra stood out in
the songs due to its high pitched tone. I was
a bit disappointed since the new instrument
that I had learnt about didn’t really stand
out among all of the other instruments.
Well, it might have been because of the Dihu’s low pitched tone. The performance
was the best thing I have ever seen. I think the orchestra was really impressive
Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School (Shatin)
and very professional. I really enjoyed one of the songs that they performed called
‘Chrysanthemum Terrace’. It’s a song written by Jay Chou, a Taiwanese singer. This
song is really touching and it has a dear meaning as well.
I would totally go to watch another performance by the Hong Kong Chinese
Orchestra again when I get the chance to do so.
