The English Department aims to provide a language-rich environment to
encourage students to learn and use English, to support their learning of
other subjects in English, to raise students’ English standard and equip them
with the language skills required in public examinations.

We would also aim to enhance students’ motivation in learning English
by providing them with more opportunities to use English through many
different English activities. What is more, to broaden students’ horizons, our
students started to join the AFS Student Exchange Programme. Meanwhile,
students are given a lot of opportunities to communicate and get along with
the Italian exchange student in our school.

To build up students’ confidence in speaking English, we provide them with
the opportunities to give English speeches during the Morning Assembly
and chat with school teachers for the English Speaking Scheme.

Teachers’ professional development is also one of the focuses of the English Department. By organizing school
visits with Yung Yau College and conducting peer observation among English teachers, more interactive and
creative elements have been added to the English lessons.

English Activities held in 2015-2016

To increase students’ exposure to foreign culture and develop their
interest in English, we organized a great variety of English activities
throughout the year.

1. Summer English Study Tour
Our students took part in an English Study Tour in July. The
destination of ours was Canada. 24 students from Form 1 to 5
as well as 2 leading teachers spent their 16-day tour in visiting
famous attractions such as Capilano Suspension Bridge,
Downtown and Lynn Canyon Park. Students therefore learnt the
English language and culture from real life experiences. Making
friends with fellow English students and host families definitely
broadened students’ horizons and helped craft an unforgettable
lifetime experience in their lives.
