Music Education at HTYC
Music education programmes at HTYC are designed to reach and teach not only students
interested or talented in music or those with a particular socioeconomic background, but
all students. As music educators, we believe that every student is unique and diversified
in musical intelligence and should have the right to be educated in arts education. Music
education and musical activities are part of the enrichment programmes of the arts education
in school.
Academic and Assessment
The Y.W.C.A. Hioe Tjo Yoeng College.
Through the school-based music curriculum, well-considered learning and teaching processes and strategies;
as well as valid and reliable assessments, we aim at providing quality music education for students in order
to cultivate their lifelong interest in music and establish a foundation for music learning. We provide music
education to students through a variety of programmes. All students are required to obtain a pass in their
assignments which are comprised of integrated subject project works, creative works, concert reports, a
cappella arrangement and singing, music composition, I.T. projects and inter-class musical quest. In addition to
classroom teaching and learning, students are also exposed to a number of co-curricular activities to strengthen
and deepen their music experience.
The HTYC A Cappella Team
The HTYC a cappella team was founded in 2012 with 14 members,
most of whom are talented singers selected from the school choir. Since
Mr Joseph Ho joined us as our instructor in 2014, our a cappella team
has started to attain remarkable progress and achievements. Our first
team was “Orizzonte”, which was established in 2014. They won the
Championship of School Division – Vocal Band in 2015 Hong Kong
International A Cappella Contest. “Acappellies”, our second team, was
formed in 2016. They won the Silver Award and Gold Award in 2017 and
2018 A Cappella Contest respectively. In 2018, “Odyssey” was formed
by a group of junior form students and they participated in the A Cappella
Contest as well. They were awarded with the Bronze Award. Our latest
team is “ZERO” which was formed in 2021. We are looking forward to
their future performances.
