Science Extended Learning
The students are exploring
the different characteristics
of a tortoise. They are also
feeding the tortoise a piece
of watermelon.
Science education is one of the most important subjects at school
due to its relevance to students’ lives and the universally applicable
problem-solving and critical thinking skills it uses and develops.
These are lifelong skills that allow our students to generate ideas,
and weigh decisions intelligently. Teaching technological literacy,
critical thinking and problem-solving through science education
gives our students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed
at school and beyond.
Due to the current pandemic situation we are facing, our students
could not experience and engage in any external Science field
trips this year. However, this presented us with an opportunity
to try something new and engaging for our students to be a
part of. We contacted Jurassic Garage, a mobile zoo company,
to offer professional presentations on topics including biology,
animal classification, evolution, habitats, ecology, geography,
and conservations regarding endangered species. Jurassic
Garage showed the natural side of animals and corrected the
misunderstanding and negative thoughts of creepy crawlers on
young people's mind. With an effective presentation, students
