Te Puia Geothermal Park, Maori cultural centre, Blue Lake

We felt the power of the geothermal activity at Te Puia Geothermal Park.

We stood there open-mouthed, unable to believe what we were seeing.

Although the white rocks and steam behind us looked splendid, we
could smell the strong sulphur there. It was quite nasty! We experienced
geothermal activity here including steaming streams, bubbling mud and

Pohutu – the largest geyser in the southern hemisphere.

We took photos in front of the Maori cultural centre (marae). We received
a formal welcome to the marae. We learnt about Maori people and

understood cultures and cultural differences. We were told about the

importance of family in their culture. At the Maori carving school, we
could find many handmade wood carvings. We identified the Maori
            symbols which carry different meanings.
