Good morning Principals, teachers and fellow schoolmates.
I’m Chris Wong, from the Career and Life Planning Team. Today, I’m going to
talk about summer part-time jobs. Many students want to do part-time jobs in
summer. Let’s talk about the precautions of doing part-time jobs.
First of all, let’s discuss the types of summer jobs. There are 3 kinds of jobs:
Camp Assistant Intern, Office Intern and Trainee. The responsibilities of a
Camp Assistant is to organize and assist 10 children. If you are outgoing and
patient, you may choose this job. Also, you need to be talkative and careful
so you should have good communication skills with children. An Office Intern
will enter some data and do clerical work. We have to be responsible and
able to multi-task. If you are reserved and disciplined, you can choose this
job. Besides the intern, there is a job of a trainee. A lot of people work in the
catering industry. If you are tidy and have good language proficiency, it may be
a good choice for you. You need to prepare food and record customers’ order.
Secondly, how should we choose a suitable summer job? We should know the
job nature before we do the job. Some of the jobs may not be suitable for us.
We should fully understand our personality. If you get angry easily, maybe
you are not suitable for the trainee. Therefore, we should know the interest of
ourselves. If you do a job that you are not interested in, you will think that it is
very boring. The skills that we have are very important too. If you don’t have
any skills, doing part-time jobs can help you gain relevant work experience.
