Technology Education
In the midst of the Digital Era, technology increases both the speed and breadth of knowledge
turnover within the economy and society. In view of this, Technology Education (TE) aims at
enabling students to develop their technological capabilities, understanding and awareness of
technological advancement so as to have critical appraisal of the impacts of technology and
become competent and confident members of the world of technology. To achieve these, we
offer Computer Literacy (CL), Home Economics (HE), Design and Technology (DT) in junior
forms and Business, Accounting and Financial Studies (BAFS) as well as Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) in senior forms.
Our TE lessons are conducted in a cross-curricular approach which is project- and activity-
based in order to polish students’ generic skills especially their numeracy, information
technology (IT), problem-solving and critical thinking skills as well as creativity. To
exemplify, F.1 and F.2 students are arranged to complete an Arduino-based project supervised
and supported by the University of Hong Kong in which they assemble electrical cars in
DT lessons and proceed with coding of the electrical cars in CL lessons. With the aid of
Computer Aided Design, 3D-printer and laser cutter, students further improve the structure
of their products. Another example is that junior form students acquire IT knowledge which
include office software applications, webpage and animation creation and video-editing in CL
YEARS OF EXCELLENCE lessons. They then create their own video cookbooks upon recording their cooking during HE
lessons as well as editing and uploading the subtitled videos. Knowledge on IT acquired in
CL lessons is also widely applied to the learning and teaching of BAFS.
40 With the great support from our school sponsoring body, a 6-storey school extension building
was completed in 2016. Coupled with the two existing computer rooms, two additional
innovative computer rooms in the new annex are in service. To facilitate interactive teaching
and e-Learning, the whole campus is well equipped with IT facilities, including full Wi-Fi
coverage, mobile devices (iPads and Chromebooks), interactive monitors, 3D-printers and
laser cutters. E-Learning platforms like Moodle and Google Suite are widely utilized for
learning and teaching. We also work closely with HKEdCity and join various schemes like
BrainPop to promote students’ self-learning.
Fruitful attainments have been shown in terms of students’ academic results. The HKDSE
Examination results of BAFS and ICT are promising. In 2017, 75% and 71% of our students
attained level 4 or above in BAFS and ICT respectively. Both figures were much higher than
the overall Hong Kong averages. Major awards have also been attained in open competitions.
Recent achievements include the World and the Hong Kong Silver Medallion in LCCI Book-
st
keeping and Accounts Level 2 Examination, Overall Championship and 1 Runner-up Prize
th
of the 6 Inter-school Finance Competition for Secondary School Students, Championship
st
and 1 Runner-up Prize of the Accounting Software Applications Competition for Secondary
School Students (N.T. East), HKICPA Scholarship for Secondary Schools, Outstanding Award
of the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2017 Competition, etc.
