We believe that reading is an indispensable, if not the only, key to success in learning. There EXCELLENCE
is a collection of around 30,000 books in the school library and students are exposed to YEARS OF
reading materials of diverse sources and formats. The new school library extension further
promotes reading by providing students with a spacious and relaxing reading environment. 40
Under the school-based Extensive Reading Programme, regular reading lessons and morning
reading sessions are held to foster a keen reading atmosphere and help our students develop
an active reading habit. There is also a regular publication of bulletins providing a platform
for book sharing and recommendation. Subject-based reading schemes are implemented and
cross-curricular reading is promoted by organizing diverse reading activities which include
book fairs, author talks, book floating and World Book Day Fun Fair, etc. Reading prizes are
awarded by the school every year and students are nominated to join territory-wide reading
activities and open competitions such as Hong Kong Book Fair, Secondary Students’ Best Ten
Books Election, Reading Contract, etc.

To embrace learner diversity, strategic measures are implemented and effective academic
support is provided to cater for the learning needs of our students at all ability ranges. There
are Enhancement and Remedial Classes tailored for helping top students break through whilst
assisting lower achievers to catch up. Weekend Tutorial Classes are also held to further raise
the academic standard of students with average academic capabilities. In addition to the
school-based elite training courses, academically abler students are nominated to join gifted
education programmes and award schemes organized by the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted
Education, local universities and other educational organizations.

Various types of academic activities ranging from the Annual English Musical, Academic
Weeks, essay writing competitions, Inter-class Debate Competition, publication of English and
Chinese essay collections to study tours to Mainland China, Taiwan and overseas countries are
organized. These prove to be effective in providing authentic language learning environment
and widening students’ horizons. Students are also encouraged to take part in inter-school
academic events and open competitions in order to maximize their exposure, build up their
self-confidence and expand their academic capacity.

The past four decades witnessed the school’s full implementation of the educational tradition
and philosophy of the school sponsoring body, i.e. an equal emphasis laid on English and
Chinese, equal importance attached to arts and science as well as equal focus on further
education and career pursuits. The years ahead will be full of challenges with the growing
request for quality education. The school, under the able leadership of the Incorporated
Management Committee and with the wholehearted efforts of the staff, will progress further
academically and forge ahead towards another decade of academic excellence. Intellectual Development
