at the 40 Anniversary cum the 37 Graduation Ceremony

Mr. P.M. Wong, Mr. A. Chang, Directors of the Association, Members of the Incorporated
Management Committee, Ms. N.L. Chan, Distinguished Guests, Parents, Teachers and
               Students,

Forty years ago, Hong Kong was in the midst of a major
economic development. New towns were built in the New
Territories to cope with the expansion. At the same time,
the government also initiated a plan to provide nine years of
free and compulsory education to our children. A number
of new schools were built for this purpose. One of the new
schools was in Wo Che Estate, Shatin, and it was allocated
to our sponsoring body, Kiangsu Chekiang And Shanghai
Residents (Hong Kong) Association in 1978. Thus, our
school, Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Shatin), was born.

YEARS OF EXCELLENCE Although our school started to admit students in 1978,
construction of the new school building was delayed. For
the first year, classes were held in borrowed premises, in
40 T.W.G.Hs. Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting College in Lek Yuen
               Estate.

From this humble beginning, our school has grown from strength to strength. We are now
generally recognized as one of the leading schools in Shatin and in the Special Administrative
               Region.

Following the educational tradition of our sponsoring body, we have adopted the use of
Putonghua as the medium of instruction for Chinese-related subjects and English for all other
subjects from the very beginning. In 1997, when the government instituted its policy of
mother-tongue teaching, we were given approval to remain an English Medium-of-Instruction
school after a careful assessment of our capabilities.

In 2001, we were amongst the three secondary school winners of the Outstanding School
Award under the aegis of the Quality Education Fund.
