Topic: You are the leader of the Dodos. How do you help them not go extinct?
Dodos Reborn
“Cats, run!” I yelled. One by one, the dodos all jumped into the ‘cat-proof’ underground
burrow.
Let me introduce myself. I am Johnny English, leader of the last surviving dodo tribe.
Once, we dodos were a big happy family, with loads of dodos. Later on, humans arrived, taking
cats as ‘working pets’. They hunted us down and ate us. The only thing keeping us safe was this
underground ‘cat-proof’ burrow. As dodos couldn’t dig, it was made when a human decided to
blow us up by sticking dynamite in the ground, and we used the metal scrap from a shipwreck to
be the door.
“We can’t survive like this!” I said.
“Yes,” agreed another. “Humans are getting smarter by the second. Sooner or later we will
all be dead.”
“There’s only one thing to do,” I said. “We negotiate with the humans.”
“Hear, hear!” said some on the ground.
We haven’t even taken one step when a cat leaped after us. With a snap, the cat fell into our
‘prison’, which was some iron bars in front of a space. As we went down our burrow, we started
to communicate with the cat. Luckily we managed to tell the cat why we were endangered and
how we needed human’s help to let us survive. Finally, the cat managed to persuade the sailors
to save our species.
Now we dodos live in sanctuaries and the sailors have promised us that we will never be
poached. Thus, we are now safe and unharmed, so we have nothing to worry about.
