Year 7 Sai Kung Camp
This year’s year 7 Discovery Week was 5 days
long at Wong Yi Chau. It is an island located near
Sai Kung, and it was hosted by the YMCA.
On the first day, we got to know our instructors,
our group mates and decided on our group
names. We also got to know our dormitory
mates.
On the second day, our group took turns doing
Jacob’s ladder and the high beam as well as the
pioneering and orienteering activities. All of
us had such a good time cheering each other
on and pushing ourselves to do something we
never thought possible.
Some groups stayed at the campsite to work on
their kayaking skills. For some of us it was the
first time for us kayaking around an island. It
was a lot of fun!
Also every night we had night activities. The
happiest one must have been having the Smores
by the campfire. Not only were they yummy, but
all of us loved the team spirit we had built up.
On the last day, we had what was called
the ‘Star Challenges’. Everyone will
probably admit that it was indeed the
best part of the Discovery, because we
basically did a lot of different activities,
that were really just one big activity
and you got points for completing all of
them.
Even though this Y7 Discovery Week was
optional, the people who did not attend
the trip must feel that they missed out
because this trip was a life-changing
experience for all of us.
