ENGLISH DEPARTMENT UPDATE

The English Department at Ho Ngai College (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen) is
highly collegial and strives to build upon past successes whilst also facilitating
ongoing staff and curriculum development that helps ensure lessons match
the interests and abilities of students and integrate the latest technologies into
lessons so as to ensure that our students have ample opportunities to develop
both general English competency and emerging digital literacies. Learner
autonomy for lifelong learning is encouraged both in class and through
participation in various extracurricular activities both in Hong Kong and
abroad. In short, our enthusiastic and hard-working English teachers provide a
myriad of opportunities for students to motivate themselves to achieve a high
level of English proficiency.

SUCCESS IN COMPETITIONS

English Debating
In only our third year of English debating we managed to get a record number
of teams in the HKPTU Debating Competition Grand Finals earning CMI 1st
Runner-Up trophies for Form 1 &2, Form 3 & 4 and Form 6 divisions. Our
students also assisted with the HKPTUDC EMI Grand Finals at City University
of Hong Kong where our NET who is Coordinator of the EMI Competition
was emcee. The debating year was completed by an inaugural inter-house
debating competition and Gold Coast Hotel buffet luncheon for all the 19th
HKPTU Debating Competition and inter-house debating competition grand
finalists. The school also hosted two HKPTU English debate training days
which trained primary and secondary adjudicators, coaches and students from
across Hong Kong.
