English Excursion to Australia 2018

During May 2018 several students from
Ho Ngai College (Sponsored by Sik Sik
Yuen) joined an English excursion to
Sydney and Dungog, New South Wales,
Australia. Although students spent a couple
of wonderful days exploring around the
picturesque Sydney Harbour, the unanimous
feeling of participants was that the highlight
of the trip was the homestays and school
placement in Dungog. Indeed, the warm
country hospitality shown to the group made
this an unforgettable experience for all.

Students’ reflections

My experience of studying and staying in Dungog, Australia
for six days was truly unforgettable. Indeed, I thoroughly
enjoyed all the activities and lessons there. Highlights
included visits to a farm and zoo. However, it was the
Australian people that impressed me most with their
easygoing friendly outlooks. Before the trip, I felt nervous
because I’m not really good at English and I was afraid
of what would happen if I couldn’t communicate with
my Australian classmates, teachers and homestay family.
Luckily, my fears were unwarranted. For towards the end
of the trip, I even became close friends with some of the
Dungog High School students and undoubtedly, these new
friendships made my immersion experience so much more
memorable. What a wonderful experience!
