Department offer field trips and fieldwork investigations as capstone
experience in the curriculum. Different field trips are for
Theodore Tam (2014) with the
NYT event organizers different learning targets; all of them help to stimulate
students’ curiosity, enable them to formulate ideas and
organise responses to questions. One of the recent field
investigations was initiated and conducted successfully
by S4 Geography students in May. They tried to
analyze the relationship between land use pattern and
microclimate in Tsim Sha Tsui. Not only did the students
acquire practical techniques in preparation, on-site
data collection and observation, they also had their
cooperation, organization and leadership skills in a team
strengthened. The experience helped students visualize,
comprehend and extend geographic concepts and skills
learnt in the classroom.
