Community Service: Elder Academy
3D Printing
Joey Fok Hei Man (4D)
In the 3D printing workshop, we learnt how materials were joined and
solidified under computer control to create a three-dimensional object.
First, we learnt how to design the shell of an object. Successive layers
of materials were then laid on the shell until the object was created. It is
a novel experience of interacting with the elderly and learning together
with them. Despite their age, they showed as strong initiative as we did
throughout the workshop. The aims of the Elder Academy Scheme are
to promote continuous learning among the elderly and inter-generational
harmony, and surely we had them achieved!
Soap making
Wendy Wong Wing In (4D)
It was an unforgettable experience to join the soap making workshop of
the Elder Academy Scheme. To my surprise, the elderly were smart and
enthusiastic in learning new knowledge. Also, we could get along with them
harmoniously and we found that many of them were talented but humble. It is
never too old to learn. We highly appreciate their persistence and willingness
to learn. Not only does this scheme help build a connection between the
youth and the elderly, it also helps us have a better understanding of each
other.
