Jeju Island

This year Dr Zarro and I took 20 students to the
South Korean Island of Jeju. Jejudo as locals call it, is
a UNESCO world heritage site known for it’s natural
rock formations, larva tunnels, windy weather, and
the very strong and hard-working Hanyeo women.
The students spent 8 days and 7 nights exploring the
natural environment and culture that the island had
to offer. Here are a few images and Haikus by those
          who went.

Hard and natural, The ocean is blue, I could feel the breeze,
As smooth as a lady’s face, Sea gulls fly above freely, The wind whispered to my ears,
Absorbing the sun. Catch a fish sometimes. Splish splash the waves rolled.

The windy weather, Tik tik the rain drops, They go out to sea,
Makes the waves attack the shore, Covering UDO Island, To help feed their families,
And makes us feel cold. Gloomy and lonely. They are the Hanyeo.

Seongsan Ilchubong Thought round, blowing through,
Couldn’t have reached without friends, Wind tugging at strands of hair,
Here we are on top. Made me look crazy!
