                                      Speech

                                                       6A Lam Moon Ching

Good morning, principal, teachers and fellow students. I’m Chris Wong. I’m working for
the Hok Yau Club, an organization that provides support and guidance for students. I’m glad
to give a speech introducing the benefits of doing summer jobs, an d give advice about what to
do and what not to do when looking for a job.

First, let me talk about the benefits of summer jobs. Summer jobs can improve your
communication skills and problem-solving skills. When you are working at your workplace,
you may not have your friends, family members or teachers around you. You need to adapt to
a new environment as soon as possible. And when you’re working, you need to face different
customers. If you face some problems, you can’t always ask your teammates for help,
because that’s workplace, not school. If you always ask them, they may think you’re stupid
and useless. So you need to solve the problems by yourself.

The second benefit is to enhance your time management skills. In the summer, I believe
everyone has holiday homework. When you have a job, you need to make a schedule
indicating when you need to work and study. Working is not like going to school, some of you
may think you can easily take a sick leave if you don’t want to work. It may be simple for you
to ask your parents to notify the school of your sickness. But in the workplace, you can’t. You
need to tell your boss or the secretary yourselves. Summer jobs can actually let you know
more about workplace earlier and enhance your time-management skills.

Third, summer jobs can help you improve your financial management. Working can
let you know it is difficult to make money. After having a job, most students won’t ask their
parents for pocket money. When you know how difficult it is to earn money, you will spend it
carefully and wisely. When you want to do shopping, you will think if the things you want to
          buy are really useful.
Next, let’s talk about what to do and what not to do when looking for a job. When you are
seeking a job, you shouldn’t only focus on the salary. As all of you are students, I believe that
you don’t need to support your family. After all, you have to keep trying and learning in order to
          accumulate your work experience.
The most important thing when looking for a job is to seek the approval of your parents.
Some parents might think that doing summer jobs is a waste of time. Spending time on study
is better than working. If you face this situation, you should communicate with your parents
and tell them the benefits of doing summer jobs.

I hope my sharing can help you choose a suitable job and know more about the benefits
of summer jobs. This is the end of my sharing. Thank you.
