Our new English Teacher
Calvin Lam Ho Fai
I have been a teacher for many years and I love being a
teacher. I am grateful to have this precious opportunity to join
PESS. This is an unforgett able memory to me as I have had a
very happy ti me in PESS.
As I can sti ll remember, when I fi rst came to PESS, I was a bit
nervous and I felt as if I was a fresh teacher all over again. I
knew very well that I had to start as an apprenti ce and learn
everything from the very beginning. I understand that even
though I am an experienced teacher, I should be humble and
learn from my colleagues, as everything in this school is new
to me. Fortunately, after spending a few weeks in adapting
to the school environment, I began to get used to my new
teaching mode. Besides, many colleagues around me helped
me a lot and they were particularly nice to me, especially
my Panel Head Ms. Joey, along with Ms. Joyce, Ms. Sally, Ms.
Yvonne and Mr. Mak. They are my best colleagues and they
took good care of me in school. Of course, I should not forget
to thank my partner Mr. David Li, who always gave me hints
and ti ps on how to get along with my class in this school.
Being a new comer to PESS, it is not easy to get along with
students. I know that I should spend ti me studying and learning the culture of the school. I always
tell myself that if I have to get along with students well, I need to be more pati ent and I have to
pay more att enti on to the needs of the students. I have to spend ti me talking to them, understand
them and try to help them overcome their problems. I believe that if their problems can be solved,
they will focus on their study again. In PESS, I can observe that students need our love and care.
They are ready to tell us everything if we are willing to listen. They can’t focus on their studies
because they have their own problems in life such as a broken relationship with their parents,
peer problems and emotional frustrations. If I can spend more time with them and stretch out
my helping hands to reach them, their problems may be solved and overcome. This is my belief in
educati on and I trust that every youngster
is fresh and green at this stage of his or
her life. They need our care, concern and
guidance.
Last but not least, I always think that
education is just like planting flowers
in the garden. Students are the flowers
and teachers are the gardeners. All the
gardeners want the flowers to grow well
and beautiful. They would take good care
of the flowers and nurture them by their
hearts. Flowers would blossom if they
absorb the nutrition from the gardeners.
I really hope that our youngsters in PESS
can be the beautiful flowers and blossom
prosperously in our homeland.
