Tech Stuff:
Communication Applications
Wong Jacob Rosales 1C (12)
Back in the past, the only form of communication was through mails. The sender
would give the letter to a mailman, the mailman would then send that letter to the
receiver. The first problem with this form of communication was that it was very time-
consuming. If the receiver lived far away from the sender, it could take weeks, months
or even years as the transport in the past wasn’t as convenient and quick as today’s.
Nowadays, mailing is still used. Usually from online shopping or letters
from institutes. It isn’t as common as it was in the old days though. Since
new technology is constantly being developed, the way of communication
has been upgraded significantly. With the use of these so-called
communications apps, communication with far away friends or relatives is
far quicker and more convenient. Such examples of these apps are Discord,
WeChat and WhatsApp. Communication apps are convenient and plentiful.
The only downside to these apps is that they require Wi-Fi. Without Wi-Fi, they are
pretty much useless. There are tons of apps like these being created each day.
Now, I’d like to share my favourite one out of the three. My favourite one
has to be Discord. Discord was initially released during May 2015, but was
officially released to the public on April 1, 2019. Discord is mainly used by
gamers, and is competing with other similar apps, such as Skype and a few
more. Discord leans towards gamers. Skype, however, is mostly used by businesses.
I use Discord on a daily basis, as it is easy to use and it is free. Sadly, the thing about
Discord is that there are tons of pedophiles lurking there and they try to trick young
children who are gullible enough to fall into their traps. There have been tons of cases
of pedophilia in Discord. It is truly a despairing sight to see such a crime happen on
the Internet.
However, overall, we should be grateful that we have ways of convenient and fast
communication. Otherwise, we would’ve been stuck to sending letters and having it
take an eternity to reach the receiver.
