Counselling and Guidance

The Counselling and Guidance Committee aims at providing a supportive and caring
atmosphere for our students so that they can cope with and adapt to the physiological,
psychological, social and interpersonal changes at the adolescent age. A healthy and all-round
development can therefore be fostered and positive behaviours are reinforced. The potentials
of students can also be developed to the fullest and students can prepare themselves to be
               responsible citizens in adulthood.

Utilizing the Assessment Programme for Affective and Social Outcomes (APASO), the
Committee identifies the needs of our students and implements various school-based
developmental and preventive programmes such as Peer Counselling Ambassadors (PCAs)
Programme, ‘Big Brothers and Big Sisters’ Scheme, Star Award Scheme, Sunshine Peer
Group, F.1 Orientation Programme, F.1 and F.6 Adventure Growth Challenge Camps, Society
Game for F.4 students and Supportive Programmes for F.6 HKDSE students. These help
F.1 newcomers to adapt to the school life, enhance students’ learning motivation, strengthen
their capabilities of facing and handling adversities. We have also joined youth support
programmes such as Dynamic Force for Personal Growth, P.A.T.H.S. to Adulthood, Caring
School Scheme, Caltex Fuel Your School Scheme, Elderly Map Scheme organized by
government departments and non-governmental organizations. Through these programmes,

YEARS OF EXCELLENCE students construct a positive self-image, establish positive attitudes towards life and
interpersonal relationships. Since 2010, Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Shatin) Elder Academy
has been set up. It provides elderly services jointly with the Hong Kong Young Women’s
Christian Association (YWCA) and ELCHK Shatin District Community Centre for the
40 Golden-aged to foster the spirit of respecting the elders among students.

The Committee maintains a close tie with all key stakeholders and functional groups, in
particular, the Discipline Committee and the Integrated Education Committee, as well as the
school social worker to ensure that counselling and guidance work is done effectively and the
best possible care and attention are provided to our students.

In the future, the Committee will continue to implement relevant works and further strengthen
the contexts and depth of counselling and guidance provided to students.
