classes on the other. That sort of lifestyle lasted for about two years and obviously is now a
matter of history but when I look back, I just couldn’t help but smile in reminiscence—How
did we even do that?
Bilingual Education
If you asked me what I achieved most out of my years at KCCS, I would say without a doubt
‘Bilingual Skills’. Little did I know back then how important Putonghua skills were, yet I am
so glad I did pay attention in those Putonghua/Chinese History classes because that’s where
I picked up my Putonghua. It goes without saying that Putonghua is a must-have skill in the
Hong Kong job market, but my first hand experience now is that it is equally important in a
country as far away as Australia.
What am I doing now?
I left Hong Kong after high school to pursue a law degree in Australia and am now working as
an Associate in real estate at international law firm Minter Ellison. While my day-to-day tasks
involve preparing contracts and advising major Australian companies in real estate matters,
the ability to communicate in both English and Putonghua, proficiently and at a business level,
is what sets me apart and uniquely places me in a position where I am trusted to advise on
YEARS OF EXCELLENCE cross-border transactions. In that regard, I have to give thanks particularly to my English and
Chinese/Putonghua teachers at KCCS for inspiring me with the importance of those languages
at an early stage.
40 Where to from now?
The 40 anniversary of the establishment of KCCS is a very special moment for us all to
th
celebrate. This is a big milestone for the school that I am extremely proud of and I am glad
that we can witness it together. May I wish those of you who are still studying all the best in
your studies and good luck with your examinations. To the alumni, I wish you every success
in your endeavours. And to the KCCS teachers that I hold my utmost respect for—Thank you
very much for your teaching.
I am now permanently residing in Brisbane, Australia and I look forward to catching up with
you all on my next trip to Hong Kong.
