Stephen Kwok Year of admission: 1999
When I was recently invited to pen down a short piece EXCELLENCE
about a throwback on my days at KCCS and an update on YEARS OF
my life now, I was like ‘Brilliant! I have wanted to put my
thoughts together about my experience at KCCS for a very 40
long time but never have had the chance to’. And here is
my chance. To say I am majorly excited is probably an
understatement, so you are about to hear my experience
back at KCCS and how I have become who I am today.
By way of background, I was (and still am) a proud KCCS
graduate of 2006 (A-level, that’s the system we had back
then) and spent 7 memorable years there. I am formally
known as Stephen Kwok but most of my school friends
would simply call me ‘ST’, a name that I still hold dear immensely after all these years.
While it has been a long time since I graduated from high school, a lot of the memories are
still vividly clear. I would say the highlights of my years at KCCS are as follows:
Junior Years
Junior years are the prime time where we get to explore who we are and who we want
to become. What I am particularly grateful is that I was encouraged and given ample
opportunities to explore my interests during my formative years, be it academic clubs or extra-
curricular activities. I was part of the Badminton Team and was fortunate enough to represent
KCCS in a range of school competitions. This period was definitely the golden days of yore
and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I was also heavily indebted to my junior teachers who worked so hard to ensure students
to have a good exposure to different academic subjects and hobby classes. This all-round
approach to junior education set me on the right path to my senior years and provided me with
a good foundation in the core skill sets required in the real world. Special mention must be
made to my alma mater’s focus on bilingual education (Putonghua and English), which I have
intentionally left in a later section.
Senior Years
A big part of my senior years unavoidably involved a strong emphasis on the preparation for
public examinations. Despite all the pressure we all had to go through, my recollection of
those years was surprisingly a very positive one. That’s the period where I felt like my cohort
of students were all amazingly diligent and united because we all had one goal in common—
to do well in public examinations. We would be consciously staying back in the school library
till late to do practice papers on one day and then rushing to back-to-back private tutorial Our Partners
