be helpful; and never give up. The school also abides by the three educational principles of
placing equal significance on both arts and sciences, both Chinese and English learning and 40
both further education and career pursuits.
Since its founding, the school has attached to the Association’s educational tradition of
adopting Putonghua as the medium of instruction (MOI) of Chinese-related subjects while
English the MOI of all other subjects. In 1997, the Government launched the language policy
of mother-tongue teaching and after assessment, our school was approved to be one of the first
100 English Medium-of-Instruction (EMI) secondary schools in Hong Kong.
In the early years upon the school establishment, the students allocated to our school belong
to Bands Four and Five. Nevertheless, with the full support of the Association, outstanding
leadership of the then School Management Committee, Incorporated Management Committee
and Principals as well as the concerted efforts of both teachers and students, our school’s
performance has progressed remarkably. Currently, our students admitted belong to Band
One, excelling in both academic and non-academic pursuits. Academically, we have seen
for years both in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination and the Hong Kong
Advanced Level Examination, an overall passing percentage of above 90, outshining that
of Hong Kong students in general. The first Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education
(HKDSE) Examination was conducted in 2012 and our school results were reported by the
th
news to have ranked 12 among all Hong Kong secondary schools while for the past HKDSE
Examinations, our results were far higher than the overall Hong Kong averages. 99.7% of our
F.6 students obtained Level 2 or above and 60% Level 4 or above. 84% obtained ‘3322’ or
better in the four core subjects. Over 70% of our F.6 students are admitted to degree courses
via Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) and nearly all our students
pursue further studies upon graduation. In the area of extra-curricular activities, our students
obtain more than 400 awards in local and overseas open competitions every year.
In 2001, it is our honour to have been one of the three secondary schools in Hong Kong
receiving the Outstanding School Award (OSA) and as the only school being awarded OSA—
Students’ Attainment by the then Education and Manpower Bureau. This attainment does
not only recognize the education quality of our school but also illustrates the Association’s
lifelong commitment to Hong Kong education and its remarkable achievements in education. School Development over Four Decades
Over the past 40 years, the Association has unceasingly rendered support to advocate school
development, enhance learning and teaching effectiveness and provide quality education to
Hong Kong citizens. The school team has also actualized the Association’s vision and has
nurtured thousands of talents for Hong Kong. Stepping into the fifth decade, our school will,
th
as always, strive for excellence tirelessly and gear steadily towards our 50 anniversary.
