Science
Our KCCIS students have made this year in Science a rewarding and exciting time of learning. Looking to the
Year 7s we have seen them develop their experimental skills and been challenged by their innovative ideas and
questions. The Year 8s were equally as keen to hone their science skills and devised creative ways to test out
factors that affected a parachute’s descent during their Group 4 projects. The Year 9 students presented the
Science Department with some impressive investigations into reactions with acids and intriguing self-made
videos about leading a smoke-free lifestyle.
The Year 10s transitioned smoothly into KS4 science and continued developing their experimental skills in
Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Chemists focused on bonding, the Physicists on an effective mechanism
to protect an egg dropped from a height and the young Biologists enjoyed learning about the major organ
systems in the human body and how plants respond to different colours of light. Year 11s Physics students
learned about different nuclear power plants and the pros and cons of Nuclear energy. Chemistry students
worked through various titrations and rates of reactions. In Biology students probed deeper into patterns of
inheritance, cloning and genetic modifications.
