Sammy’s crocodile
4B He Zifong, Ray
The baby crocodile that Sammy’s cousin had given him was getting too big to keep in the
bathroom. One day, Sammy came home from school and was horrified by what he saw.
The bathroom door was opened. There was water all over the floor. The bedroom was in
chaos. The lamp was broken. His new trousers were on the floor. The cupboard was opened.
The pillow was torn. He was just in time to see the tail of his crocodile over the windows as it
moved away.
A few hours later, the crocodile returned to the house. Sammy was astonished to see two
little crocodiles following his own pet crocodile.
‘Sammy! Don’t worry. I’m not a ghost or a monster!’ the leading crocodile said slowly.
‘Are you really my crocodile friend? You have never spoken to me before!’ Sammy
stammered. It was a big shock for him to see a crocodile speak.
‘Of course I’m your friend! I’ve learnt how to speak for a long time but I don’t want to
frighten you! Now I just want to say goodbye to you,’ the crocodile replied with a big smile.
‘Why? We’re happy here!’ Sammy said.
‘I think I can’t live with you anymore. I’ve been here for several years, but I have a family
now. I have to find a new place to live. Thank you for taking care of me. I’ll come back to visit
you regularly!’ the crocodile added and left the house.
Sammy felt that his body was frozen. He could not say a word.
After that, the crocodile family comes back to visit Sammy every weekend. They play with
Sammy’s neighbours too. The Tai Po Village is never the same again.
