English Works

                    My Experiences in Summerbridge

                                                  4C Yu Yuen Yeung, Jason

Hello, everyone! I’m Jason Yu from 4C and would like to share my learning experiences
in Summerbridge with you all. I have joined Summerbridge twice. I first joined Summerbridge
two years ago. Last summer holiday, I joined Summerbridge as a returning student. I met
new teachers every time, but their passion for teaching has not changed at all.
All teachers are passionate in teaching. They are also friendly and helpful. No matter
how terrible your English is, they still try to figure out what you are talking about and then teach
you how to express what you are trying to say in English. I appreciate their effort very much
as I was touched by their enthusiasm.

As a returning student, my job was to help new students get immersed into the
Summerbridge culture and help them to experience the fun part of it. As I was a new student
two years ago, I know exactly how new students feel when they first go to Summerbridge.
They should be feeling nervous and curious at the same time. So, I started a chat with them
and talked about why they joined the programme, what their hobbies were and what their
goals were. Most of them were really shy and barely said a word in the conversation. So,
we, returning students, had to play the role as an ‘ice-breaker’ and make friends with the new
students. They realized that everyone is nice in Summerbridge and all conversations were
          conducted in English then!
There is an important rule called ‘English All the Time’ in Summerbridge. That means
everyone, staff, teachers and students have to speak English all the time, even when you
are in washroom! You still have to speak in English even though you are chatting with your
friends. It is everyone’s job to keep this rule. If anyone speaks in Chinese, the others will stop
          you.

It is a really good opportunity for you to make new friends and spend a fruitful summer
holiday. Why not take action now?
I hope that I can see you in this coming summer holiday! That is the end of my sharing.
          Thank you.
