The English Department aims to provide a language-rich
environment to encourage students to learn and use English,
ၾ ઺ ኪ supporting their learning of other subjects in English, raising students’
English standard and equipping them with the language skills for
their future needs.

To enhance teaching
and learning effectiveness
under the influence of the
pandemic, a great variety of

English e-learning platforms
and tools such as Quizlet and
Kahoot! are used by teachers
and students. With the implementation of blended learning, students can still
learn effectively while having half-day lessons.
We also aim to enhance students’ motivation in learning English by
providing them with ample opportunities to use English through many
different English activities. To build up students’ confidence in speaking
English, we provide them with the chances to chat with teachers as well
as the English ambassadors for the English Speaking Scheme outside
classrooms.
Teachers’ professional development is also one of the focuses of
Teaching and Learning
the English Department. By conducting peer observation among English
teachers, taking part in Quality School Improvement Project (QSIP) and
attending workshops organized by EDB and universities, more interactive
and creative elements have been added to the lessons so as to arouse
students’ interest in learning English.
English Activities held in 2021-2022

Although activities like the AFS Student Exchange Programme were suspended due to the pandemic, we still
organized a great variety of English activities throughout the year to increase students’ exposure to foreign culture
and develop their interest in English.

1. Inter-house English Quiz Competition
Inter-house English Quiz Competition was held to provide
chances for students to practise English in a fun and competitive
way. The questions were about pronunciation, common expressions,
vocabulary, spelling and riddles. Students participated in the
competition actively and prizes were given to the winning house.
