Reminiscence
Yim Hoi Nam (54 Graduation)
th
Five summers have passed since I graduated, and much has changed in those turning seasons, or so I’ve noticed,
when I sit amongst those who still attend the annual reunion gatherings.
Nonetheless, I have had my share of good memories! From casual chats over mugs of tea with tutors and friends to
spinning each other round and round on the rooftop garden or someone spitting out their water in the middle of class.
So many highlights that we reenacted during our graduation camp. So much laughter followed by quite a bit of snuffling
when we volunteered to share our feelings about moving on from primary school. Most of these moments are trivial but
I suppose they are all snapshots of an unbothered and simpler time.
Soon enough, the graduates of 2016 all moved on. For me, it was a great leap to go from a local primary school
to an international secondary school. I have the teachers and principal at APSSS to thank for recommending me to
the school. The school offered me a myriad of opportunities, be it a sailing programme, a chance to join a robotics
competition, speech festivals or other occasions for me to practise my public speaking. They aided me in developing
hobbies and skills that I, unexpectedly, found to be useful in the future.
As a soon-to-be graduate of my current school, facing the dreaded IB exams and the possibility of leaving Hong
Kong, I often look back at these uncomplicated moments as a means to ground myself and set myself adrift in nostalgia.
Had I the chance to go back in time, there isn’t much I would change. For me, the teachers were like shepherds to sheep.
With their guidance, I have gained experiences worth more than their weight in gold.
