Message from Mr. Law Wai Nam, Principal
I am delighted to announce our celebration of the 50th Anniversary
of St. Bonaventure College and High School. I’m deeply honored to
share with you the enormous impact SBC has had on the lives of
thousands of young men and women over the past half century. We
have over 30,000 students who have graduated and progressed to
make an impact on this city, and even the world.
This is my 25th year as part of this wonderful SBC family, and my
6th year as Principal of SBC. In recent years, our school has gone
through a series of REFORMATION. We have set up a 3-year
School Development Plan (2018-2021) to enhance students’
academic performance and whole person development, in addition
to enhancing the competitiveness of our school. With invaluable help
from everyone involved, including teachers, parents and students
themselves, SBC students can excel and fully seize their potential in different aspects. Our
incredible effort has really paid off tremendously. We obtained fantastic results in the Hong
Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE). With these results, this year’s
JUPAS offer rate is 49.5%, almost half our F6 students were given an offer. The value-added
index of the best 5 subjects also reached the first quarter of ALL schools. The percentage of
our F.3 students achieving Basic Competence of TSA in English, Chinese, and Mathematics is
between 91-96%; and our Secondary One discretionary places application this year reached a
ten-year high!
We constantly adapt our vision to align with worldwide education trends. This allows us to
equip students to meet the ever-changing challenges in society. Thus, our aim is to promote
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) collectively. STEM focuses on
educating students in these four subjects in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. STEM
is undeniably crucial for our future generations. We have initiated a project to create a STEM
room and Bonaventure Channel in order to advance students’ creativity and ingenuity.
We consistently emphasize the importance of reading in school, and we have invested
uncountable effort in promoting its value at all levels. I cannot stress its importance enough
- understanding the written word is fundamental to functioning in today’s society. Reading
develops our imagination in addition to our creativity. It allows you to go anywhere and
everywhere in the world, and be whoever you wish to be. Read everything and anything you
can lay your hands on. Books, magazines, even the Internet are all great sources of literature,
as well as learning tools. The key is to not limit yourself to just ONE form of reading, but to
diversify your source of knowledge and pleasure. I encourage ALL students to read at least
one book each month. Over time, you will fall in love with reading, and will have become better
informed about the outside world.
GRATITUDE is the theme this school year. We aim to cultivate students’ sense of appreciation
and thanksgiving, to parents, teachers and society as a whole, even during this critical
COVID-19 pandemic. In this momentous time of our 50th Anniversary, I wish to thank all our
teachers for always going the extra distance for our students, and parents, school managers,
alumni and all stakeholders in the school who have given us vital support without hesitation. I
look forward to seeing our school begin a new chapter of success.
Mr. Law Wai Nam
