Another thing that impressed us was that all students wear casual clothes. There are no
school uniforms in Finland! Perhaps we could try this in Hong Kong and see what happens.
Another brilliant aspect is that students have a say in the school’s development. Olari School
has its own board, on which students, parents and school staff are represented. Students can give
their opinions on facilities, school activities, teaching and learning, as well as the curriculum and
the school’s annual plan. What a remarkable idea!
In general, Olari School does a lot to foster individual autonomy regarding course choices and
the expression of personal ideas. It is certainly a good place for teenagers to ponder their future
academic or career path.
