English Department
In 2018-2019, the English Department strived
to extend language learning beyond classrooms.
In order to nurture students to not only master
English, but also appreciate the elegance of the Grace Tsang (3B) won Coey Yip (4B) won F4 Solo Verse Speaking

language, the English Department has always Monologue (age 15 or under) Girls Prose Reading Wong (4B)
encouraged our students to participate in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. Through constant practice
and study of classical works, students develop their understanding. Our young learners have also displayed
their diversified interests by partaking in various categories, ranging from Prose Reading to Shakespeare
Monologue. In the past years, our students have showed great determination to excel in this prominent event.
Students' performance and efforts are highly recognised by not only the school, but also the adjudicators,
parents and their fellow students.
To us, language learning is never confined to practising reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Our
Form 4 students also showcase their creativity and originality through filming a clip to bring the traditional ritual
of villain-hitting to the world. Their efforts eventually bore fruit and they were awarded second place in 2018
Have Your Voice Heard Interschool English Video Filming Competition, with prizes worth $5000.
Our achievements do not cease here. The English Department has devoted our efforts to bring fun
to language learning and excite students with the joy of English. Exposing students to English has always
topped our priority. This year, a wide range of English activities have been introduced to create an English rich
environment. In September, English Fun Day was held in the hall for all students to savour fun activities. Later
in November, we cooperated with SCOLAR to provide story telling lessons for Form 1 students and inspire them
with the significance of reading. English Week was also organized in May to foster a fun English atmosphere.
Lunchtime activities and game booths were set up for all students to join and they were well received.
Our department has collaborated with the EDB to carry out Seed Project in Form 1 classrooms for the
purpose of promoting interdisciplinary learning. This project aims to connect students' learning experiences
with cross-curricular domains in the English classroom, allowing them to participate in English-related life-wide
learning activities to enrich and extend language learning experiences. Through constant collaborative planning,
reflection and refinement, our teachers as well as learners benefited from the project.
