Foreword

            by the Headmaster

“A town on a hill cannot be hidden, neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl,
instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let
your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in
            heaven.”
                                                                                     Matthew 5:14

Many people would look at our world today and see it cast in darkness. Extreme environmental
change is a reality. Former international alliances have become enmities. International
collaboration and trade is declining. A new generation of leaders must rise to solve these
complex global problems in a technologically-advanced and fast-paced environment.

Education has never become more important to nurture young future leaders with diversity in
talents and interests. As DBS celebrates our 150th anniversary this year, we celebrate a legacy of
providing an education for all-round excellence rooted in the ageless values of Christian service.
Community neglect has called our former servant leaders to cast light and will call our future
servant leaders to continue to bring light.

This year, we were honoured to have marked our anniversary with a Lighting Ceremony of
the DBS hill. We trust that DBS will continue to be a beacon of light in the community as we
continue in our acts of service for those in need. As the Diocesan story continues to be written,
let us fight ever so gallantly as we uphold this undefiled heritage.

May God bless you all, and may God bless the Diocesan Boys’ School.

                                                                                 Mr. Ronnie Cheng
