To my fellow schoolmates:

It feels like only yesterday when
I walked into this school with
my low level of Chinese and
very few ideas about how to be
a good student. I walked into my new classroom where I hoped for nothing more than
a place to fit in. To my surprise, my classmates talked to me even when I was shy and
mumbling, while teachers tried their best to help me with my studies and guide me when
I went astray. I felt welcomed to this big family of Lee Heng Kwei. Time flew by and I
was in my graduation year when I realized that I should no longer be afraid that I would 27
lose my connection to this family; instead, LHK has become a part of me. I’ve improved
my Chinese in this school; I started to understand maths at this school; I returned to
painting because of this school; I’m only the me I am today because of everything I’ve
learnt that has made me who I am in this place, a place full of teachers of focus and
commitment and students who work hard. I’m so glad that I stepped through the gates
of LHK those few years ago and honored that LHK has made me who I am today.

And now some advice: To attain a decent performance academically in the DSE, you
                 will need to do more than just complaining about the teachers and homework at school;
as the saying goes, ‘God helps those who help themselves’. I understand that many of
you feel you are not good enough at English. But in the words of Lao-Tze, ‘If you do
not change direction, you may end up where you are heading’, in other words, it’s still
going to be the way it is today if you do nothing about it. The most critical yet the most
arduous part of learning English is building up your vocabulary bank - you will not only
need to understand the meaning of a word, it’s also advisable to learn a word’s tone
and appropriateness in different contexts. That process may not come easily, but if you
wish to attain a new level, you should start to learn at least 10 new words a day. Get a
vocabulary notebook and start reading! Good luck.

Thank you for reading, and thank you to everyone who has contributed to my life thus
                 far.
